In celebration of Lunar New Year, Le Colonial, the acclaimed French-Vietnamese restaurant located at 601 East Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach, will host a Lion Dance Show on Saturday, February 1 at 6 p.m. and will highlight dishes that are reminiscent of the holiday.

Lunar New Year, also known as Tết in Vietnamese, begins on January 29 and lasts for 23 days. Lunar New Year is commonly regarded as one of the most important holidays in Vietnamese culture: it signifies the arrival of spring and involves a multitude of traditions, celebrations, and cuisine. One of the holiday’s most celebrated traditions are Lion and Dragon dances.

On the evening of Saturday February 1, Le Colonial will host a Lion Dance show, featuring two lions and a drum team from Lee Koon Hung Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu Association. The 15-minute show will take place throughout the restaurant and will be free for diners.

Throughout Lunar New Year, Le Colonial will offer its standard dinner menu, which features several dishes reminiscent of the holiday, such as Goi Cuon ($15) the Chilled Shrimp Roll; Ca Chien Saigon ($95), a whole crispy red snapper for two; and Mi Xao He ($14), Garlic Noodles, for those looking to celebrate with authentic cuisine.

“Visitors will get an authentic experience,” said Nicole Routhier, Partner and Culinary Director at Le Colonial. “The soul of Le Colonial’s food is Vietnamese, and our servers are trained and well versed in Vietnamese cuisine to guide the dining experience.”

The Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center’s Phyllis & Harvey Sandler Center (Levis JCC Sandler Center) is excited to present "Remnants," an art exhibition by acclaimed artist and photographer Lew Lautin, now through March 28 at the Judi & Allan Schuman Museum Gallery. This captivating showcase features over 40 pieces from Lautin's extensive portfolio, including composites made from family photographs, restored images from over 3,000 of his father’s negatives dating back to the 1920s, and works from his "Hunger at Home" series, depicting South Florida's homeless community. The exhibition provides a profound visual narrative blending Lautin’s rich history with his creativity and insight. Lautin’s artistry delves into the transformation of historic family photographs into fine art, combining restoration techniques with an innovative approach to storytelling. "My passion as an artist is to look deep into each image until I am able to transform that frozen moment into the magic beyond the image and then to share that magic with the world," says Lautin. Lautin’s artistic journey began when he was 12, inspired by a second-hand Zeiss Icon 35mm camera, a meaningful gift from his father purchased from a Brooklyn pawn shop. His father, M. Edmund Lautin, was also a prolific photographer, whose works have been masterfully restored by Lew and now reside in the permanent collection of the Boca Raton Museum of Art. As a resident of Boca Raton for more than 20 years, Lautin has significantly contributed to local arts education, teaching photography at both the Boca Raton Museum of Art and the Coral Springs Museum of Art. "We are honored to host Lautin’s notable exhibition," said Susana Flaum, Judi & Allan Schuman Museum Gallery Director. "His distinctive approach to transforming family history into visual art pieces provides our community with an inspiring look at our collective heritage.” The exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit levisjcc.org/culture, call 561-558-2520, or email susanaf@levisjcc.org. On Wednesday, January 8, American Humane Society, the United States’ first national humane organization, held the 14th Annual Hero Dog Awards in Palm Beach and honored five dogs with remarkable stories. All proceeds raised went towards American Humane Society’s work rescuing animals affected by the California wildfires.   The Hero Dog Awards is a nationwide competition that searches for and recognizes America’s standout dogs in five categories: therapy dogs, service and guide dogs, military dogs, law enforcement and first responder dogs, and emerging hero/shelter dogs.   Beginning in June, Americans nominated hundreds of inspiring dogs from across the country and five semi-finalists in each of the five categories were chosen. After a competitive public voting process, the field of 25 was narrowed down to five incredible finalists. The winner, Bo, was then selected by a blue-ribbon judging panel. Bo is a year-and-a-half-old Bloodhound in the Law Enforcement and First Responder category who has rescued several missing people and helped police apprehend criminals using his keen sense of smell and tracking skills.   The Hero Dog Awards Gala was hosted by longtime American Humane Society ambassadors, Christie Brinkley and Carson Kressley. During the event, American Humane Society also announced a significant rebrand, including a refreshed logo, a new website, and an updated tagline: “Rescue. Care. Protect.” To reflect the organization’s expanding global efforts in animal welfare and conservation, it has also introduced an international arm as Global Humane Society.   “The Hero Dog Awards offers an opportunity for Americans to come together and celebrate remarkable dogs who make a lasting mark on our lives,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of American Humane Society. “We were thrilled to honor Bo and the Hero Dog Awards finalists and to kick off the new era of American Humane Society.”   Thank you to our sponsors, American Airlines, Coleman All Natural Meats, Lulu’s Fund, Pets Best and Sam Rose, who have generously sponsored our award categories for the event.   For more information about the American Humane Hero Dog Awards®, visit HeroDogAwards.org.   About American Humane Society:  American Humane Society is the United States’ first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare, helping to verify the humane treatment of more than one billion animals across the globe each year. The Adolph & Rose Levis JCC (Levis JCC) is proud to present the 2025 Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival (JLKBRJFF) Feb. 8 – 22, at Movies of Delray. The two-week festival will feature more than 30 Israeli and Jewish-themed feature films, shorts, documentaries and comedies from around the world. Boca Raton’s original Jewish film festival, now in its ninth year, offers entertaining, inspiring and thought-provoking stories, community connection, and the unique opportunity to learn from filmmakers, producers, actors and directors at screenings and special events throughout the Festival.

Viewed by more than 3,000 film enthusiasts in 2024, the JLKBRJFF is the premiere destination for Jewish and international films, carefully cultivating a variety of film genres ranging from comedies and love stories to political and historical dramas.

"I am so proud of our festival, which is a respected space for cultural enrichment and really excels at bringing our community together through the universal language of film," said Evan Foster, Manager of the Levis JCC Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival. "By presenting a variety of films that offer diverse perspectives, we are able to spark conversations that enrich our collective understanding of each other and the world around us."

The 2025 JLKBRFF lineup captures the depth and diversity of Jewish and human experiences. From poignant dramas like "Bliss," which delves into the complexities of marriage, to powerful documentaries like "Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire," which provides a unique biographical insight into one of the most revered voices in the Holocaust remembrance movement, the festival offers a profound exploration of resilience, identity, and history.

The festival also delves into the realms of music and personal legacies with "Janis Ian: Breaking Silence," which chronicles the turbulent and inspiring life of singer-songwriter Janis Ian, and "Beethoven’s Nine," which intertwines the history of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with contemporary global events. Meanwhile, the Festival’s lighter films include "31 Candles," a quirky and heartfelt story about late-life bar mitzvahs and personal rediscovery set against the backdrop of New York City.

This extensive mix not only entertains but also educates and inspires dialogue on significant historical events and personal stories, showcasing the Festival's commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of Jewish life across times and territories.

“We take great pride in being Boca Raton's original Jewish film festival," said Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center's Grand Benefactor Judy Levis Krug. "Each year, our goal is to present new stories that resonate with our audiences, reflecting both the historical depth and the vibrant spirit of Jewish culture.”
