As South Florida temperatures rise to near record-breaking levels, the YMCA of the Palm Beaches reminds everyone to stay hydrated and safe around water this summer. The YMCA/ Gleneagles Country Club Aquatic Center, located at 2728 Lake Worth Road, is the perfect place to beat the heat, and there are two ways to do it:

Membership at the YMCA of the Palm Beaches includes open pool time at the temperature-controlled pool and features a twenty-five-yard, extra-wide lap lanes, adaptive swimming equipment, and generous poolside seating. With UV indexes as high as 12 and temperatures in the 90s, a daily dip could be just what the doctor ordered!

Work at the Y. YMCA of the Palm Beaches is hiring year- round and seasonal lifeguards and swim instructors- a perfect opportunity to stay cool while learning leadership and instructional skills. More information about these positions can be found below.

Job Opportunities

The YMCA of the Palm Beaches is currently seeking swim instructors and lifeguards.

A YMCA Lifeguard maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Lifeguards are expected to maintain active surveillance of the pool area using rule of scanning. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and completes related reports as required. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.  Lifeguards could be called upon to instruct swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines.

A YMCA Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in a group format for youth ages 3-12. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and completes related reports as required. Training will be provided on class format and management.

Applicants for these positions must be at least 16 years of age. Further, both positions require certain certifications and child abuse prevention training. The YMCA will be happy to assist hires in attaining these certifications. Both positions are part- time with an introductory hourly rate of $12.00 an hour.
