19 Oct Orchid Empowers Raises $100K for new Eastman Advanced Workforce Training Complex at Indian River State College
Orchid Empowers, a philanthropic group of women who reside in Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club, has raised over $100,000 in support of the opening of the Eastman Advanced Workforce Training Complex (AWTC) at Indian River State College. The state-of-the-art center is set to open on November 1st with a ribbon cutting and interactive tour at 11:30 a.m. The 70,000-square-foot facility for industrial education will be equipped with the technology and tools needed to prepare local students for high-demand, high-paying jobs in the following trades:
– Advanced Welding
– Automotive Technology
– Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration
– Aviation Technology
– Manufacturing
In February of 2023, Orchid Empowers held its first ‘Golf Cart Concert’ fundraiser to
raise funds for the Eastman AWTC. Attendees gathered at the Orchid Island Golf Range
to enjoy music, beverages, and snacks from the comfort of their own golf carts. The
fundraiser hosted 100 golf carts with 225 Orchid Island members present to show their
support.
“We are so gratified to have raised these funds to support the education of local
students,” said Mary Lownes of Orchid Empowers. “The new center is just beautiful,
and we are delighted to have named the courtyard!”
Due to the generosity of the Orchid Island community, the courtyard of the Eastman
Advanced Workforce Training Complex will be named after Orchid Empowers.
