My name is Gabby Berment, I’m a senior at Florida Atlantic University, (Go Owls!) majoring in Communication Studies. With communications, there’s so much you can do with it, the opportunities are endless. But, book work, 10 page papers and group projects is just one aspect that helps my future career. Now a hands-on environment with an award-winning agency? That’s where I can see my true potential.

Internships are the most rewarding and insightful experiences a student can have. Finding one where you don’t feel out of place, judged or undermined can be a challenge, but that wasn’t my case. This fall I took on an exhilarating internship with The Buzz Agency. I had a team of successful business women to look up to. They didn’t expect me to know everything and anything about the industry, they simply wanted to help me, just as much as I wanted to learn.

Walking into this internship I was thirsty for the experience. I wasn’t looking for the “busy work” or something simple to keep me occupied throughout my work day. I wanted a true reflection of what my future would look like in a few short months, and thankfully, that’s what I got. (Not to mention the really cute office space on Atlantic Ave in the beautiful city of Delray Beach was just a plus!) The Buzz team helped me every step of the way. From drafting press releases to calendar listings, media alerts, to attending client events, making mistakes and constantly learning from them and so much more, this internship was a thought-provoking hands-on experience.

I was fortunate enough to have my voice heard, to express ideas and opinions for clients and the team for the better. I expanded my skills with social media platforms. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, you name it, I was working on it and conquering it. I was very involved in using my creativity to come up with fun content for TBA’s blogs and social media along with our clients as well. And let me tell you, it’s so rewarding to see your hard work out in the social media world for everyone to see, it gives you such a great sense of accomplishment.

As of today, I am so much more confident in the knowledge of PR. With TBA being my second internship, it was crazy to see how much valuable information I was able to gain. I have a long way to go in my future, but TBA’s experience left a lasting impression on me that I can’t wait to use in the real world. I’m forever grateful for working with such an amazing agency to guide me on my journey to my future career, it’s definitely one for the books!
