Wine, Women and 3 Things You Learn When Arranging Flowers at Field of Flowers’ Flower Bar

Image-Field-of-Flowers-Flower-Bar-Boca Field of Flowers, with three locations in Boca Raton, Miami and their flagship store in Davie, has introduced a new, interactive experience – FlowerBar – where guests to the popular flower emporium are invited to create their own beautiful arrangements with step-by-step instruction from a floral expert. Much to my surprise, the event was not just for the naturally crafty – which I’m not. (I prefer things already assembled and delivered, but that’s just me…) All you really need, however, is a love of flowers, a good group to laugh with, and an open mind. What you leave with is a custom arrangement of freshly cut flowers that you can proudly claim you made all by yourself, albeit with a little help. One afternoon, surrounded by friends, new and old, flower arranging yielded these three humorous lessons – 1) Champagne makes everything better. Before you begin your floral creation, the good people at Field of Flowers encourage you to mosey on over to the food and wine table, where there is fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, and champagne. It’s a whole new way to arrange flowers, munching on finger foods and sipping bubbly liquids. Everyone seemed real at ease with this part of the program. 2) Watch the shears. Once the class officially began, we each received a bucket o’ flowers, a nifty pair of pruning shears and a pot filled with prepared materials. Our floral expert, Jaclyn Gough, showed us her spectacular arrangement of color and movement, and then systematically walked us through how to duplicate her creation. We got as close as we could; some got closer than others. But it was great fun, twisting our curly willows, warming our calla lilies and sticking our roses in the empty spaces to fill the holes. As you can imagine with 16 creative women in one room, the jokes got a little racier, and the laughter got a little louder as the class went on. 3) Women are natural cheerleaders. No matter what we created, we were all cheerleaders for each other. “Yours is beautiful!” “Yours is perfect.” “I love what you did.” Even if you create a hot mess, you’ll still get kudos, if you’re with the right group. We proudly displayed our arrangements for photos, and then the good people at Field of Flowers boxed up our babies, and we took them home. So, whether you’re crafty, a DIY-er, into home décor or none of the above, as long as you love blooms, bubbles and baudy friends, you’ll have a ball bringing out your inner Martha Stewart at the FlowerBar.
